Establishment of Post-fellowship Development and Education Committee


One of the missions of the College is "to foster the continuing medical education of orthopaedic surgeons who have completed their training for the public benefit". Recognising the importance of this, the College has started the discussion of improving post-fellowship development and education since 2011. Opinion on post-fellowship education was sought through open forum. Consultation was made among different stake-holders.

It was decided in the Council meeting in 2019 that the mode of post-fellowship development and education will be REGION-BASED. The aim is to provided platforms of advanced orthopaedic training in different sub-specialties to all the members of the College.

The current post-fellowship development and education program include the followings:

1. HKCOS EDUCATIONAL DAY
2. CADAVERIC WORKSHP
3. CLINICAL ATTACHMENT PROGRAM


HKCOS EDUCATIONAL DAY


"HKCOS Educational Day" is a region-based quarterly-held one-day academic program organized by the College. The program is cross-specialty, including trauma, joint replacement, sports medicine, musculoskeletal oncology and paediatric orthopaedics, etc. The format of the teaching includes:

1. Didactic lecture series
2. Debate ¡V "Orthopaedic crossfire sessions"
3. Surgical demonstration and video presentation ¡V "How I do it ¡K?" series
4. Interactive case discussions


The first region to be covered in the HKCOS Educational Day is KNEE.

The first "HKCOS Educational Day in KNEE" was held in Queen Elizabeth Hospital on December 28th 2019.

On top of this, the College will act as a coordinator among different stack holders (e.g. Hong Kong Orthopaedic Association and its subspecialty chapters, commercial partners, overseas orthopaedic association, etc) to facilitate the arrangement of post-fellowship education program. These include cadaveric workshop, short-term clinical attachment, visiting fellowship program, etc.


CADAVERIC WORKSHOP


The College will act as a coordinator to facilitate the organization of region-based cadaveric workshop by different stakeholders, including Hospital Authority and commercial partners. The College is NOT responsible for organization or providing sponsorship to these program.

Interested stakeholders can provide information to the College secretary at hkcos@hkcos.org.hk. After vetting by members of Post-fellowship Development and Educational Committee, information of cadaveric workshop will be displayed in college website.


CLINICAL ATTACHMENT PROGRAM


The College will act as a coordinator to display information concerning orthopaedic related clinical attachment program. The College is NOT responsible for organization or providing sponsorship to these program.

Interested stakeholders can provide information to the College secretary at hkcos@hkcos.org.hk. After vetting by members of Post-fellowship Development and Educational Committee, information of clinical attachment program will be displayed in college website.
